The Centre for Process Innovation (CPI) is a UK based technology innovation centre and the process arm of the High Value Manufacturing Catapult.
We were actively involved in the creation of the centre and then its strategic oversight through our Executive Chairman being a Governing Board member of Innovate UK.
We have undertaken several joint projects delivering innovation to the chemical process industry.
IChemE is the hub for chemical engineering, biochemical and process engineering professionals worldwide.
As Technical VP and then President, Ian Shott delivered the Technical Road Map strategy, which evolved into Chemical Engineering Matters, updated annually. He also led the Biofutures Study, promoting the use and exploitation of Engineering Biology.
In 2021, Ian made a major donation to the institution and created a steering and project team to design and install a fully operational Sustainability Hub for all members to access online. This became operational in 2022.
The Academy brings together the most successful and talented engineers from across the engineering sectors for a shared purpose: to advance and promote excellence in engineering.
Our Executive Chairman founded and led the Enterprise Hub, from 2013, which supported university spin outs and start-ups with modest financial support but very powerful mentoring, training, networking and business growth support. An accelerator for established SMEs with Mentoring, Training and leadership coaching was also created in parallel.
In 2021, our Executive Chairman made a substantial donation to greatly strengthen the accelerator, which was renamed the Shott Scale Up Accelerator. Impressive results have been achieved over the last decade by the Accelerator, which follows a similar model to Shott Trinova, as follows:
- Number of leaders supported = 173
- Number of jobs created post participation in the programme = 1,184 (42% headcount increase)
- Valuation increase post participation in the programme = £3.7 billion
- Follow on equity funding = £2.4 billion
- Follow on grants raised = £300 million
- Follow on funding raised post participation in the programme (counting both grants and investment raised) = £2.7 billion
The overall performance of the Enterprise Hub, which includes over 100 start-ups in addition to the above, is as follows:
- Entrepreneurs supported = 350+
- Follow on investment raised = £3.1 billion
- Jobs created = 3,000+
And all achieved via grants from the Hub comprising just over £16 million.
Shott Trinova has provided, mentors, workshops, presentations and keynote speakers.
The Society is a not-for-profit organisation with a heritage spanning 175 years that invests in educating future generations of Scientists.
We have facilitated workshops on strategy, innovation and entrepreneurship.
SCI is a global network of innovators, formed in 1881 by prominent scientists, inventors and entrepreneurs, with whom we have been associated for the last two decades.
We have assisted in the formulation and delivery of the Industry Strategy through the Chemistry Council, with a special focus on innovation involving workshops, presentations and key-note speeches.
In 2022, our Executive Chairman led a process to create a business and industry led Engineering Biology hub, composed of major multinational companies, SMEs, start-ups and academic institutions. In 2023, he handed over chairmanship of the Hub to a senior executive of one of the multi-national companies.
